Portrait Clubs of Alexandria Technical College

Instructor and Class description:
Myron Sahlberg, has received certification from the Portrait Institute of New York to conduct classes in portrait painting as a part of the Institute’s nationwide Portrait Clubs program. Myron received his teaching certificate from John Howard Sanden (www.jhsanden.com) who created the Portrait Club atelier system. The Portrait Club program is a network of painting classes across the United States and Canada. Each class is dedicated to traditional oil portraiture with all studies made directly from the live model. The Portrait Clubs classes are open to artists of all levels of experience. For further information call or E-mail Myron or log on to the Portrait Clubs national web site at www.Portraitclubs.com.

You will learn every crucial painting discipline.

• How to set out a portrait artist’s palette of colors, color discernment, and color mixing.
• What brushes to use and brush handling.
• Every step of the painting process is detailed for you - what to do first, and what to do next.
• Each painting session begins with a brief video of John Sanden describing and
demonstrating a particular part of the painting process.

Class size:
The Portrait Club classes are limited to ten students, ensuring every artist a proper view of the live model. The studios are orderly and professional. No previous painting experience is required to join a Portrait Club class.

Ten-week cycle:
Portrait Club classes operate on a ten-week cycle, meeting once-a-week. We plan to have three cycles each year (fall, spring and summer). The fall classes start in October and the spring class start mid-February. The Summer Class will be scheduled into a shorter time frame. Call for specific days and times.

Models: Each student is responsible to bring a model at least once during the 10 week course. If the class is smaller than ten students you may have to bring a model more than one time. A schedule will be set up during the first class.

Materials: Approximately $275 for initial supplies. Certain materials are required. A materials list will be sent to you along with a list of venders.

Tuition: $250 Further information on how and when to pay the tuition will be given when you sign up.
To join the fall class: Please call or E-mail Myron Sahlberg to sign up for the next class.
