Human Services Practitioner

Program Focus

This program is designed for people already working within the field. It is also for people who are interested in pursuing direct service as a career and for people who want to learn more about supports for people with disabilities. This educational experience will provide students with practical knowledge and experiences in the community supports field.

The program is a collaboration of Alexandria Technical & Community College offering general education courses and South Central College, Mankato, offering seven core online courses. Characteristics of self-motivation and persistence will be especially important for taking online courses.

Minnesota law requires a background check before working in any licensed facility. Students must have a clear criminal background to participate in internship and therefore eligible for graduation.

Qualifications

The Human Services Practitioner program is designed to educate direct service workers to provide community based supports to people with disabilities. It offers a two year AAS degree along with a diploma program (Direct Service Professional) option. The program is a collaboration of Alexandria Technical & Community College offering general education courses and eight program courses offered online by South Central Technical College, Mankato. The program can be completed entirely online or in a blended format. Blended format would include both online and on campus courses.
