Administrative Assistant students are provided with training and skills to work in an office setting. Employers expect graduates of the Administrative Assistant program to have a wide range of office support skills and be able to handle increasing levels of responsibility.
The Administrative Assistant graduate brings the following skills to an office environment:
- Word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
- Understanding of calculators, records management systems, and multi-line telephones
- Basic accounting skills
- Office communications and report preparation
Students who have completed the Administrative Assistant diploma program may transfer into the Administrative Office Management AAS degree program as second-year students.
The curriculum is arranged so that students can enroll with no previous business training, however, training in keyboarding, grammar and basic math is helpful.
The Administrative Assistant program provides the necessary training to apply for an entry-level job. Students who earn their diploma in Administrative Assistant may also choose to enroll in the Administrative Office Management program to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree.
