Lean Manufacturing

Description

Lean Manufacturing is often called many different names. Lean, Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, and Toyota Production System are all commonly used names for referring to Lean Manufacturing. As Lean Manufacturing continues to expand into sectors beyond manufacturing, it is becoming increasingly common to refer to these efforts and initiatives as simply "Lean". Lean in its simplest definition is the process of working from the perspective of the customer or consumer of a process or service, looking to remove all activities or actions that do not add value to the product or process, thereby improving process flow. Essentially, optimizing the "value-added" activities, eliminating the "non value-added" activities (also known as muda).
