Computer & Voice Networking

Program Overview

Students prepare to support the growing fields of information technology, networking, IT security, personal computers and convergence technologies. Course content includes computer maintenance and repair, PC operating systems, local area networking (LAN) management, wide area network (WAN) management (switching and routing), wireless communication, information security and IP convergence technologies including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Graduates are able to provide system support and training in a variety of areas including personal computers, software support, local area networks, wireless data systems, corporate phone systems, wide area networks and related technologies. Four areas of concentration allow students choice and flexibility in obtaining their skills and degree.

Qualifications

Computer & Voice Networking is a two-year program granting an Associate in Applied Science degree. Students who succeed in this program typically enjoy working with personal computers, interacting with people, completing hands-on activities and troubleshooting problems. This is an excellent career choice for both men and women. The curriculum provides training in three areas of concentration: Network Administration, Network Infrastructure & Design, and PC & Network Support. Each area offers the graduate a launching point for a career in that field. Employers find this combination of skills to be extremely valuable, providing excellent placement opportunities. A wireless laptop computer, leased from the college, is a requirement and an advantage of this program.
