Interior Design Student Awarded $5,000 for Winning Design
Kelsey Warren, an Interior Design student at Alexandria Technical & Community College, Alexandria, MN, was awarded $5,000 for 1st place in the 2010 National Kitchen and Bath Association and General Electric Charette challenge. To meet the client's specifications, Kelsey had to incorporate a home office and cooking school in her kitchen design. Kelsey's inspiration was in the way she arranged the appliances for ease of use and defined the office and guest area with a curved glass counter.
More than 400 students from 28 colleges participated in challenge, which tests students' ability to think and apply their knowledge of kitchen design. The students' challenge was to produce a floor plan with specifications, a design statement, and one additional drawing a perspective or elevation all within three hours.
