
Program Overview
Alexandria Technical College's Concrete Mason program prepares individuals specifically for a career as a concrete mason or finisher. Linking classroom instruction and hands-on experience, the one-year diploma program prepares graduates to work with applications of concrete in residential and commercial construction.
The program builds on the proven success of Alexandria Technical College’s Carpentry program. Students take courses in math, framing, blueprint reading and estimating and develop an understanding of construction fundamentals. Developing skills as a concrete craftsman are addressed with courses in block, flatwork and brick. In addition to fundamental construction skills, students study properties and testing of concrete, concrete repair, specialty concrete properties, concrete production facilities operation and concrete construction methods. The program prepares students to work in various positions within the concrete construction business.
Qualifications
Prospective students in the Concrete Mason program should have a strong interest and desire to work in the construction industry. The occupation requires workers to be physically healthy and able to work in varied conditions. High school shop classes are desirable but not required. Skills in basic math and communications are very helpful.
