Jack Hensel selected to serve as SkillsUSA Minnesota State Officer

Jackson (Jack) Hensel, Alexandria Technical & Community College Welding Technology student, was recently selected to serve as a SkillsUSA Minnesota State Officer. He was one of several college students selected at the annual state conference. For the next year, these individuals will travel to events across the state, sharing the message of Career and Technical Education, and of SkillsUSA.

SkillsUSA Minnesota officers work together to develop engaging educational conferences for the members statewide. Additionally, they visit business and industry representatives and legislative representatives. Through effective speaking and facilitating techniques, SkillsUSA Minnesota leaders communicate the message of career-readiness. According to Chelle Travis, Director of SkillsUSA, “SkillsUSA state officers develop and use high level leadership skills to prepare themselves and others for future careers. SkillsUSA state officers are among the most elite student leaders in each state.”

For students who may be considering a career in welding, Hensel says, “Really look into it and try it out if you can. Try welding a good bead (with help), and then try to build something.” Hensel is excited to serve SkillsUSA, but knows there’s a lot of work ahead of him. After graduation, he hopes to work on a pipeline as an independent welder.
