After completing a formal application and review process, Alexandria Technical and Community College has been granted member status in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
The NJCAA, founded in 1938, is the governing association of community college, state college and junior college athletics throughout the United States. Currently the NJCAA holds 24 separate regions across 24 states.
ATCC joins Region 13, which includes Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, much of Wisconsin, eastern Montana, and Michigan’s upper peninsula.
In addition to the Clay Target League team, which launched competitive play in 2019-2020, ATCC will offer eSports and Men’s and Women’s Golf beginning Fall 2020. At the time of this writing, ATCC is the only two-year Minnesota State college to offer Esports competition on a national level.
Tony Van Acker has been named ATCC’s Athletic Director. He has been an instructor in the Exercise Science program since 2013. Van Acker earned a Master of Science degree in Sport Administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, also from UW-L.
