Alexandria Technical & Community College is adding to its Legends Athletics portfolio with Collegiate Competitive Fishing set to begin this fall 2021 season.

Alexandria College will be the first two-year college in Minnesota to offer Competitive Fishing. Also setting the Legends program apart is secure on-campus sporting equipment storage for boats and a dedicated coach in Joe Scegura, a Mechatronics program instructor with years of fishing and guide experience.

“With access to more than 300 lakes in Douglas County, many with legendary fishing experiences, Competitive Fishing is an obvious next step for our athletics program,” said President Michael Seymour. “We’re excited to continue growing our athletics offerings to create opportunities for students to compete and enjoy a robust student life experience.”

With the collegiate fishing conference focus on bass fishing, Alexandria College will host its inaugural fall Competitive Bass Fishing season locally in 2021 with the top competitors offered an opportunity to represent the Legends in regional and national tournaments in summer/fall 2022.

Outside of bass, the College is looking at other fishing opportunities as well, such as winter fishing competitions for students.

To experience Legends Competitive Fishing, students must be admitted and enrolled for fall 2021 and will need a current Minnesota fishing license, a boat (or a partner with a boat), gas, bait and tackle, life jacket and transportation to area lakes.
