Alexandria College will add Volleyball and men’s and women’s Soccer to its Legends Athletics offerings for the fall 2022 competitive season with the hiring of two new coaches.

Coach Mitch McGuire will lead the Volleyball program and Coach Tom Roos will head the men’s and women’s Soccer programs.

Volleyball and Soccer join Baseball as the latest Alexandria College Legends Athletics offerings added this spring and summer. The growing varsity athletics portfolio also includes Clay Target League, eSports, Golf and Competitive Fishing.

“We’re excited for the high level of coaching talent we continue to attract to build our Legends program and our inaugural teams,” said Alexandria College President Michael Seymour.

Legends Volleyball Coach Mitch McGuire

McGuire brings and extensive knowledge of Volleyball to the Alexandria program as a player and a coach. He gained collegiate experience as a coach under St. Cloud State University Huskies Volleyball Head Coach Chad Braegelmann, and has coached for high school teams in Little Falls, St. Michael-Albertville, La Qui Parle Valley, Alexandria and Osakis. As a student at the University of Minnesota – Morris, McGuire was a setter for four seasons on their men’s club volleyball team.

He also coaches for the highly-competitive Kandi Elite Volleyball Club in Willmar. His Kandi Elite teams have placed several players on collegiate teams throughout the Midwest, including three to NCAA D1 teams in 2021, and have achieved outstanding results and national tournaments.

“Athletics have been part of my life for as long as I can remember,” McGuire said. “As a former college student-athlete, and now as a coach, I know well the hard work, sacrifice and unwavering dedication it takes to compete at the collegiate level. Becoming the inaugural head coach as Alexandria College launches this new program is an opportunity I cannot pass up.”

To facilitate Legends Volleyball, plans are underway to renovate and upgrade the campus gym.
