Abby Hamman wins regional golf tournament

Legends golfer is NJCAA DII Region IV champion and named to All-Region Team.

Legends golfer Abby Hamman of Slayton claimed top honors in the NJCAA DII Region IV Women’s Golf Tournament on Oct. 5 and will compete at the National Championship in the spring.

Hamman golfed rounds of 84 and 85 for a total of 169 to be the Region IV Champion. She also was named to the All-Region Team (top five tournament individuals).

Abby Hamman“It was a fun tournament,” Hamman said. “My short game wasn’t the best and the greens were very slow compared to what we have been practicing on but I’m happy how I finished and I’m excited to work on things this winter for the upcoming spring season.”

The Women’s Region IV tournament took place at Lake Bracken Country Club in Galesburg, Illinois. Hamman battled difficult conditions on a tough course with humidity, rain and wind all playing a factor.

With a 169 total, Hamman ended comfortably in the top position head of the pack with Averi Heintzelman of Carl Sandburg Community College golfing a pair of 93s for 186 in second place and Amber Fellows of Kishwaukee Community College at 188. .

“Abby played great; she has played great all season,” said Legends Golf Head Coach Scott Dirck. “This course was very tough and the weather was not the best. I can not wait to see what she does in the spring season and finishing up her career as a Legends golfer at the National tournament.”

Hamman will compete at NJCAA DII National Championship May 9-12 at Timacuan Golf and Country Club in Lake Mary, Florida.
