Be it a gallon of milk, a package from Amazon, or a part for a car needing to be repaired it takes a truck to get it to where it needs to go. Since its birth in the early 20th century, the trucking industry has been a staple in moving goods and supporting the U.S. economy. Alexandria Technical and Community College has been supporting the trucking industry since 1965 when the college’s diesel technician program was created.

Alexandria College has trained and graduated thousands of professional technicians who continue to keep the U.S. supply chain moving. To maintain the ability to create these qualified professionals, Alexandria College uses the most up-to-date training and technology to make sure its graduates stay competitive and knowledgeable in their craft.

To keep up with the ever-changing advancements in the industry, Alexandria College works with industry leaders who can support academic programming and invest in our students’ future. Long Haul Trucking Inc. is one of those industry leaders, and in 2023, to support the college, Long Haul donated a 2018 Peterbilt tractor to the diesel technician program.

“We see the opportunity to donate equipment to schools with programs like ATCCs as a call to action,” said Jason Michels, CEO of Long Haul Trucking Inc. “Our industry needs to step up and help bridge the gap between the schools’ resources to what is being used in our industry today if we want to maximize their potential and the time they spend in the classroom.”

The equipment provided by Long Haul Trucking Inc. not only helps maintain the program, but it supports the mission of the diesel technician instructors at Alexandria College.

“Our job is to find them, train them, and get them employed,” said Dustin Schilling, an alumni and now current diesel technician instructor at Alexandria College. “Our school has a strong foundation, and as one of its graduates, I take pride with my fellow instructors to work hard in maintaining it.”

Schilling and his colleagues, Andy Grieve and Brent Rademacher, create a learning environment that provides students with the most relevant skills and information to succeed as technicians. Their hard work and industry partnerships have led graduates to have a 100% related employment rate for many years.

The faculty, staff, and Alexandria College community are grateful for industry partners, like Long Haul Trucking Inc., who provide the institution with important resources to maintain the college’s reputation of excellence and high-quality education. Donations like this give the students at Alexandria College the professional edge when entering the workforce.
