Alexandria Technical and Community College is offering an 11-week Consumer Economics and Finance course for Spring 2024. The class is worth 3 credits and will meet on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 – 8:55 pm. This course is designed to fit the needs of adults of all ages from all walks of life. Instructor Kelly Hughes will teach students to evaluate financial situations and create their financial plans.

Once a week, January 8 – March 26, 2024, the class will meet to take a closer look at today’s economy and how it affects each of our lives. After completing the course, students will have the knowledge and skills needed to understand financial products used in the modern economy, create the framework for a lifetime financial plan, and study major consumer financial decisions. Throughout the semester, students will develop a complete financial plan personalized to their needs and circumstances—something that costs upwards of $1000 to have a professional create. Students will also dive into asset acquisition, risk management, investment and retirement planning, and budgeting.

For eligible students, this course can be taken at no cost through the Retraining, Academic Instruction, and Skills Enhancement (RAISE) initiative. Individuals residing in Douglas County with a household income of under $100k per year may qualify. RAISE is founded on the belief that education is the key to opportunities and empowers individuals by bringing them to their educational goals. RAISE eligibility info >>
