Three Alexandria College Welding Students took top honors at the AWS Behind the Mask Competition.

Lucas Melson, Kaden Feldt, and Dominic Finken earned three of the top six awards in the college division at the American Welding Society’s (AWS) annual Behind the Mask competition for high school and college students in Fargo, N.D., on March 20, 2024.

North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) hosted the annual event. The competition is designed to challenge each student’s welding skills and to provide them with a platform to present their skills to the welding industry.

Behind The Mask is judged by industry professionals who evaluate participants on safety, quality of welds, and the ability to follow AWS welding standards. Students from Alexandria Technical & Community College, NDSCS, Southeast Region Career and Technology Center (Wahpeton), Bismarck Career Academy, Sheyenne Valley Career and Technology Center (Valley City), North Valley Career and Technology Center (Grafton), Mandan High School, East Grand Forks, and Minot High School all competed in the event.

Alexandria College Welding students earned three of the six top honors in the college division.
