Students at Alexandria Technical & Community College put their business skills to the test last week during the college's Local DECA Competitions, gaining hands-on experience in professional scenarios and learning from a Fortune 500 leader about finding purpose in business.

ATCC held its Local DECA Competitions on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Students from the college’s Business Division competed in a variety of business- and accounting-related events designed to strengthen career readiness and practical skills.

In addition to the competitive events, students attended a keynote presentation by Brian Dunn, former CEO of Best Buy. Dunn shared leadership insights and emphasized the importance of identifying one’s “true North” and allowing it to guide decision-making and long-term success in business.

The competitions provided students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world business scenarios while developing professional, analytical, and leadership skills. Participation in DECA supports experiential learning and reinforces industry-relevant competencies aligned with today’s business environment.

Next stop for Collegiate DECA, state competitions in February.
