For the first time in its history, Alexandria Technical & Community College has earned both the 2026–27 Military Friendly® Gold Top 10 School and Gold Top 10 Spouse School designations, the highest recognition yet in the college's more than decade-long commitment to serving military-connected students.

Alexandria Technical & Community College has earned the 2026–27 Military Friendly® Gold Top 10 School designation and the 2026–27 Military Friendly® Gold Top 10 Spouse School designation, continuing its mission to provide veterans, their spouses, and the military community with opportunities to achieve their personal and career goals. Alexandria College has been designated a Military Friendly® institution for more than a decade, but this is the first time the institution has received the Gold and Top 10 designations.

In addition to offering comprehensive services for veterans, active service members, and their families from admissions through graduation, Alexandria College works closely in partnership with the military. Through the U.S. Navy Community College (USNCC) partnership, which has been in place since 2020, there are multiple unique programs and certificates in three key areas: Naval Nuclear Engineering, General Engineering, and Health Sciences.

Alexandria College has also partnered with Distance Minnesota and other Minnesota State institutions to create the Global Military Learning Network. This initiative provides accelerated pathways from select military occupations to related degree programs such as Ophthalmic Technician and Cybersecurity. With a focus on becoming a premier higher education provider for active service members and veterans, ATCC offers all prior learning credit evaluations at no cost. Career information, success-coaching services, and crisis support are also available through the college’s partnership with Distance Minnesota.

In 2025, Alexandria College became an approved school in the General Education Mobile (GEM) program. GEM was created by the U.S. Air Force to provide greater educational continuity and faster degree completion to service members. As an approved GEM school, ATCC offers Air Force and Space Force students the general education courses needed to meet Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) degree requirements.

Alexandria College values the maturity, dedication, persistence, responsibility, leadership, and perspectives that veterans bring to campus, and thanks to a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education, support services for military-connected students have been greatly expanded. “The CEVSS Grant (Centers of Excellence for Veteran Student Success) enabled our college to hire two dedicated individuals with first-hand military knowledge to develop impactful programming and connections for our military-connected students. Collaborative efforts across campus to support the recruitment and retention of our military-connected students have been integral to our work.” said Jana Koehler, ATCC Director of Financial Aid and Veterans School Certifying Official. “[Our new Veterans Services team members] have fully stepped into these roles, and the dedication they bring to Veterans Services is clearly demonstrated by these accolades.”
