Zoom Video Backgrounds

Zoom has a built-in feature to hide your environment and substitute a beautiful background photo. Feel free to use any of these photos as a background for your ATCC Zoom account. Backgrounds work best when used in an environment without bright, harsh light. If you have a window behind you, the background may not work well.

  • Right-click an image below and select "Save Image As..." - Save the file to your computer
  • From your computer, log in to your Zoom account at, click "Sign In" and, if prompted, enter your Star ID and password (if you're already logged in to Brightspace or other services you may be logged in automatically)
  • Once you're logged in, hover over "Host a meeting" near the top right, and select "With Video On" from the drop-down - This will open a personal meeting room
  • At the bottom of the meeting window, click the "^" next to "Stop Video" and select "Choose Virtual Background"
  • Above the pre-loaded images, click the "+"and upload the image you saved to your computer
  • Close the window and leave the meeting - your selection will save automatically

Note: Backgrounds with text will appear backwards to you, but will show correctly to other participants.

Video Conferencing Security

Web/video conferencing services are increasingly popular with the recent surge in telework, including at ATCC. While these services can be extremely effective in online teaching, learning and telecommunicating; there are risks for an unwanted disturbance (sometimes referred to as “Zoom-bombing”) during a video conferencing call, which can pose issues including but not limited to the distribution of inappropriate/offensive content or an unauthorized user’s access to non-public information. Fortunately, there are safeguards for our primary web conferencing services, Zoom and Microsoft teams, that you can put in place for your calls to prevent and stop such a disruption.

Microsoft Teams

  • Share your meeting links only with invited guests. Do not share your meeting links publicly (e.g. social media).
  • Use Meeting Options to disable other participants from sharing their screen and restrict access to the meeting
  • Be wary of admitting unknown guests (if an unknown guest is admitted and removed from the meeting, they will be able to re-enter the meeting without needing to be re-admitted)
