Students today are navigating a complex education and career landscape—one where in-demand jobs and viable career paths don’t always align with common perceptions about success. That’s why Alexandria Technical & Community College works closely with industry leaders and continues evolving to meet workforce needs.
The manufacturing and transportation sectors face high demand and often offer strong wages, but many of these career paths aren’t widely considered by students. Alexandria College’s recent investments reflect both industry demand and growing student interest, including expanded capacity in the Welding program, a major renovation of the Machine Tool Technology lab supported by a $1 million industry grant, and the planned opening of Minnesota’s first comprehensive Transportation Education Center in 2027—a $25 million project.
These efforts are working, while maintaining quality. Alexandria College increased fall enrollment by 20% this year and saw a 99.4% related job placement rate, both the highest in the Minnesota State system. Alexandria was ranked No. 9 nationally by a Georgetown University study for alignment between academic programs and local labor markets.
By guiding students toward meaningful, in-demand futures, Alexandria College strengthens Minnesota’s workforce and delivers ROI where it matters most.
