Defensive Driving

National Safety Council
4 hours

Whether your employees are experienced drivers, assuming new driving responsibilities, or simply commuting to and from work, this course will provide them with safe driving knowledge and collision prevention strategies that focus on behavior, judgement, decision making, and consequences. This course will help influence decisions to avoid collisions and decrease traffic violations.

Chemical Hazard Communication

The Chemical Hazard Communications training is designed to provide the information necessary for employers to provide a safe workplace environment and to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, rules, and regulations.

*According to the Minnesota Safety Council, this is one of the two most frequently "cited" standards according to MNOSHA.


Pre-Trip/Post-Trip Inspections

Daily Inspection Requirements

This inspection course is designed to educate drivers and carriers regarding the Federal rules and regulations pertaining to pre‐trip and post‐trip inspection.

Crash Management and Decision Driving

2 hours

Crashes are a fact of life and they occur when you least expect them. They cannot be planned for…but how you deal with a crash can be planned and prepared for ahead of time. When a commercial motor vehicle is involved in a crash, there are several issues that must be considered and dealt with by owners, safety directors, and supervisors.

Additionally, the driver and other employees need to follow specific criteria. This training is designed to explain and help navigate all the steps involved when a crash occurs from start to finish and to help ensure that drivers understand and adhere to these requirements.


Work Zone Safety

2 hours

This class is designed primarily to train workers to understand the dangers involved in a work zone and how to remain safe while on the job.

Load/Cargo Securement

2 hours

Federal and State regulations, require that all commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) must, when transporting cargo on public roads, be loaded to keep the cargo secured and to meet minimum standards. This training course will include the following topics:

  • Types of load securement.
  • Methods of proper securement.
  • Why proper load securement is required by Federal and State regulations.


Minnesota Mandatory Inspection Program (MIP)

Alexandria Technical & Community College continues to be a provider of both the main Certification training to become an inspector (classes held at the MN State Patrol in Mendota Heights) and the Recertification continuing education classes required every two years to renew inspector status.
