POLICY STATEMENT

Campus Security

To ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, students are kindly asked to exit Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) campus buildings by the posted closing times on days the buildings are open. During times when the campus is officially closed—such as holidays and weekends—buildings are not accessible to students.

ATCC utilizes a security camera system throughout various campus buildings to help maintain safety and support investigations in the event of a reported security concern. If you observe any suspicious activity or potential security issues, please promptly contact the Director of Facilities and Security or the Safety and Security Compliance Officer. They will follow up to ensure the matter is appropriately addressed.

Evening security officers are available Monday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until building closure at the Main Building and the Office and Information Technology Center (700 building)/Law Enforcement Center complex. In addition, student security workers—who are trained student employees—support campus safety through regular foot patrols, escort services, emergency first aid, and general safety monitoring. While they are not certified peace officers, their presence helps foster a secure and welcoming campus environment for students, employees, and visitors.

Crime Reporting

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is a federal statute requiring colleges participating in federal financial aid programs to maintain and disclose campus crime statistics and security information. The U.S. Department of Education conducts reviews to evaluate an institution's compliance with the Clery Act requirements.

In compliance with the Clery Act requirements, Alexandria Technical and Community College monitors criminal activity and maintains a three-year statistical history of crime reports. ATCC will distribute a copy of this report to each current student and employee, notify prospective students and employees of its availability, and provide a copy of the report upon request.

All illegal and inappropriate activities occurring on campus must immediately be reported to the Safety and Security Compliance Officer. All alleged criminal activities will be investigated. The Safety and Security Compliance Officer serves as the primary liaison that accurately and promptly reports all Clery Act crimes occurring on ATCC campus property to the Alexandria Police Department (APD). ATCC will use local law enforcement for law enforcement authority on campus and the college has the authority to bring APD in when deemed necessary. ATCC has established an agreement with local law enforcement giving them the authority to conduct investigations of alleged criminal offenses occurring on Alexandria Technical and Community College's property.
