Engineering is a profession that uses basic knowledge from the mathematical and natural sciences and utilizes the materials and forces of nature to develop systems that will perform optimally and economically for the benefit of mankind. The Engineering Broad Field AS degree program is designed to provide for a student’s first two years of a four-year Engineering degree and will meet the needs of those students who have not yet decided on a specific engineering field.
Students will develop a fundamental knowledge of physics, chemistry, and mathematics along with the engineering requites necessary to meet lower division requirements for BS Engineering specialties: Civil/Construction, Composite, Electrical, General, Manufacturing, and Mechanical.
The Engineering Sciences Certificate recognizes completion of the lower division math and science courses required to major in engineering at the bachelor's level.
The Engineering Requisites Certificate recognizes completion of the lower division engineering classes required to major in a wide variety of engineering specialties at the bachelor's level. NOTE: Completion of the ATCC Engineering Sciences certificate or transfer of equivalent coursework from accredited institution(s) is required prior to acceptance into the Engineering Requisites certificate.
Coursework from these two certificates applies toward the Engineering Broad Field AS Degree. Students may choose to start with a certificate program and then apply those credits toward the AS degree, or may start directly with the AS degree.
