Welcome to the Second Half of Spring Semester
Welcome to the second half of Spring Semester at ATCC/USNCC! We wish you the best of luck as you work toward completing your spring semester course. Please see the Calendar & Important Dates section for course start/end dates and additional info. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need assistance with anything regarding your course or academic support. We're here to help!
We will begin registration for your summer course (Programmable Logic Controls) in mid- to late-March. Once we receive your Progression Validation from USNCC, we will reach out to you individually about registering for summer semester. Please wait to register until you hear from us.
Many of you are very close to completing the Nuclear Engineering Fundamentals Certificate, with just a course or two to go. Keep up the good work! You can review the required courses at alextech.edu/NUCF. To view your progress toward the Certificate, you are encouraged to visit eServices and download your degree audit report (DARS). If you aren't sure how to do this, please watch this short video:

Additionally, please note that if you have not yet applied to ATCC, this is required for us to be able to post your certificate completion. This can be done at alextech.edu/apply. You will need to log in with your StarID and password before proceeding with the application. The application fee is waived for our USNCC students.

Numbers to Know:
StarID (xx1234xx)
StarID is the student username and login for ATCC and all other Minnesota State campuses. It must be activated and managed at starid.minnstate.edu.
Tech ID (12345678)
This eight-digit number is unique to ATCC. It is confidential and should be protected. Students may use this ID or email address to change their Star ID password.
StarID Self Serve: Activate your Star ID to log into many services, like email, D2L Brightspace, etc. reset your password, change profile preferences.
eServices: ATCC students can check final grades and view/print academic record (grades are not mailed out). View and revise personal information, such as changing your address.
Email: Your alextech.edu email address is the official form of communication from the college. Students are responsible to know the information sent to them from the college through their ATCC email. Login with [YourStarID]@go.minnstate.edu and your StarID password.
Office 365: ATCC provides Microsoft Office to all currently registered students free of charge. Login with [YourStarID]@go.minnstate.edu and your StarID password.
D2L Brightspace: Learning management system used across Minnesota State to provide online access to on campus courses and provide means of delivery for online courses. Login with your StarID and Password.
Zoom: Cloud platform for video and audio conferencing, collaboration, and chat. If using the desktop or mobile Zoom app, select "Sign in with SSO" and enter "minnstate" at the prompt (minnstate.zoom.us). Proceed to log in with your StarID and password.

I grew up near Alexandria and then headed to Duluth, MN for college. I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth in 2002. After graduation I returned to my hometown in Central MN to teach at an elementary school for four years, before returning to St. Scholastica in 2006 to work as an Admissions Counselor. In September 2021, I joined the staff at Alexandria Technical & Community College as the Transfer & Advising Specialist and assumed the advising responsibilities for the ATCC-USNCC program. I look forward to working with the USNCC students as they progress through the program with us.

I am a first-generation immigrant from Nigeria, but I’ve called Minnesota home for over 25 years! I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis and graduated with a B.A. in Communication and Leadership Studies from Minnesota State University Moorhead. That is where my passion for work in higher education was born. The transition to ATCC has been one that I am grateful for because my passions align closely to what the college is doing in the field of student health and equity. I’m excited to join the team as an advisor for our USNCC students.

As a college counselor and licensed mental health professional, Julie works with students to help them identify short and long term academic and career goals and to overcome any barriers in achieving those goals. Before joining Alexandria Technical & Community College in 2007, Julie gained industry experience in a variety of different practice settings including special education, inpatient and outpatient medical care, human services, and corrections. Recognizing the value of higher education, Julie provides counseling support and advocacy to all students with a student centered, student focused perspective.

I earned my BA in English from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and my MA in English, with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Applied Writing, from St. Cloud State University. I've worked as a writer and journalist, and I've performed some of my essays for radio. Although I'm not from rural Minnesota, my parents were from the Alexandria area, and my relatives were the 3rd settlers in Douglas County. I spent my childhood and teen years in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, but I returned to Minnesota to attend boarding school at Shattuck-St. Mary's in Faribault. I lived in the Twin Cities for a number of years, where I met my husband who was in the USMC and is a Gulf War veteran. After the Gulf War, we moved to Alexandria to raise our family. I'm grateful to have traveled around the world, but in that process I've learned that everyone has a story, and every story deserves to be written.

My name is Andrea Dammann. I teach full-time science at Osakis public schools and part-time at ATCC. My bachelor’s degree is in pharmacology and toxicology from the University of Sciences of Pennsylvania. My research emphasis was understanding the arachidonic acid pathway of the cardiovascular system. My master’s degree is in educational leadership along with many master’s level courses in chemistry and physics. I am married and we have three daughters. I enjoy living in the Alexandria Minnesota lakes area and all of the outdoor activities that we can enjoy here. I am excited and honored to teach those serving our country.

I was born and raised in Casa Grande, Arizona. I have had the great fortune to have traveled and taught all over the country. Some of my favorite places to be are in a wild forest (let’s face it, counting mushrooms that I probably cannot identify), near a picturesque countryside (the one’s near picturesque diners that serve picturesque all-day breakfast and picturesque homemade pies), on a mountaintop (wheezing, but there), and on a beach (love the Oregon Coast… I am totally fluent in Sea Lion barks). Here are some of my random “likes”: 80s music (favorite band The Smiths), sci-fi films (favorites are Brazil and Blade Runner), and poetry (favorite authors: ee cummings, Charles Simic, James Tate, and Ai).

Before receiving accommodations, students are responsible for identifying themselves and making their needs known to the college.
- To begin, schedule an appointment with Support Services by emailing supportservices@alextech.edu or by calling (320) 762-4673 or (888) 234-1222 ext. 4673.
- Next, provide documentation of the disability to the ATCC Support Services office using email.
- Finally, meet with the Director of Support Services (using Zoom), at the beginning of each semester, to review needs and to sign a request for accommodations form.

The USNCC funds up to five courses per year by supporting the costs of tuition, mandatory course fees, and required course materials (NOT including computers, calculators, or other electronic devices). These remain available provided you maintain eligibility by USNCC policies. You may briefly see a bill on your portal for USNCC funded courses as the system processes the credit. However, you should never pay a bill at ATCC for USNCC funded courses.

USNCC students may use TA funding to take additional college courses ONLY when they are not concurrently taking a course being funded and supported by USNCC.
Students taking a 16 week course at ATCC may enroll in a USNCC Naval Studies Core course that begins in the 2nd half of that term.
USNCC students will typically begin their first course at ATCC or USNCC depending on their academic program plan and prior learning experience.
Students may enroll in up to 5 courses per year total (funded by USNCC). Students should plan to complete a minimum of 1 USNCC delivered Naval Studies course per 12 month period.
The default time zone in the course is Central. If you are working remotely and in a different time zone, you should update Brightspace to reflect that. This will help you with due dates and other time-related settings within the course. Brightspace will keep the actual moment in time the same for all students, but adjusts the display times according to time zone. For example, if the instructor in Minnesota sets an exam to be completed by midnight on a given day, a student in the Eastern Time zone would see the due date as 1am, and a student in Pacific Time would see it as due at 10pm. However, the test would all be due at the same moment in time which is 12am Central time.
- In Brightspace, click on your name in the top right corner, then choose "Account Settings"
- Scroll down to the "Time Zone" section. Choose the best location for you.
- Click "Save and Close" to save your preferences.
The USNCC highly encourages students to communicate often with their course faculty and student advisor about any job or life requirements that could affect their course performance. All of the USNCC participating colleges have extensive experience supporting service members pursuing a college education and will support as much as they are able to.
Courses will be delivered asynchronously, meaning there will be participation requirements throughout the course, but not at a specific time during the week, which supports a worldwide assigned student base.
Yes, all course work completed at ATCC will transfer and count in the Thomas Edison State University degree program.
The course work is completely asynchronous, meaning that learning activities do not require real-time interaction; instead, content is available online for students to access when it best suits their schedules, and assignments are completed to deadlines.
