Certification/Licensure Information

The U.S. Department of Education has implemented regulations (Regulation 34 CFR 668.43 (a)(5)(v)) which requires Alexandria Technical & Community College (ATCC) to make public whether a program will fulfill educational requirements for a specific professional licensure or certification required for employment in an occupation where the institution’s curriculum meets state educational requirements for professional licensure or certification.

Exercise Science

This applies to:

Exercise Science curriculum actively prepares students for a credentialing exam from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The Certified Personal Trainer certification (NSCA-CPT) is recognized by all 50 U.S. states and all U.S. protectorates.

Law Enforcement

This applies to:

Law Enforcement programs teach the skills and characteristics necessary to successfully pass the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board examination and gain employment in the state of Minnesota. These programs are intended to prepare a student for potential licensure or certification in Minnesota and students may or may not meet the educational requirements for a licensure or certification in another state.

For law enforcement programs offered online, it is undetermined if ATCC meets educational requirements for other U.S. states.

Medical Laboratory Technician

Medical Laboratory Technician curriculum actively prepares students for the Board of Certification Examination of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, which is recognized globally.

Nursing

Students may go to the National Council of States Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) website to review each state’s initial licensure educational requirements: https://www.ncsbn.org/14730.htm

1. This information is only for initial licensure by exam requirements for the state listed.

2. Students should contact the Board of Nursing in the state they would like to be initially licensed in for more specific information. ATCC's Practical Nursing and Associate Degree of Nursing programs meet the requirements for licensure in Minnesota. For all other states, it is undetermined if ATCC meets educational requirements.

Ophthalmic Technician

This applies to:

Alexandria Technical & Community College will be pursuing accreditation with the International Council of Accreditation (ICA).

Once the program is granted ICA accreditation, students who complete program requirements will be eligible to sit for the Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT®) certification examination from the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO®).

Truck Driving

This applies to:

Professional Truck Driver certificate programs prepare students for licensure in the state of Minnesota. It is undetermined whether ATCC meets the licensure requirements for any state other than Minnesota. View state-by-state requirements for CDL licensure at this link.
