This course explores communication within and between cultures and co-cultures. Students are challenged to examine their cultural assumptions while fostering an understanding of the diverse factors that influence communication in our interconnected world. They will learn to recognize both individual and group cultural perspectives, examine their own biases, and build meaningful connections across diverse backgrounds. Practical exercises and real-world applications will empower students to enhance their communication competence, ensuring they are well-prepared to engage effectively with people from other cultural groups.

This course deals with the fundamentals of expository writing based on reading or personal experience. It stresses organization, the process of writing, English grammar, mechanics, and style. Emphasis is on the strategies of exposition as well as effective description and narration. This course offers students an introduction to the academic research process, as well. Students learn the process method of writing that can be utilized in business, academic, and creative writing. Prerequisite: College level writing score on a placement test or a minimum grade of C in ENGL0900 (College Prep Writing).

ENGL 1420Composition II  
This course is a continuation of Composition I (ENGL1410), with stress on analytical writing, research, and documentation of supporting evidence. Learners write critical analysis, cause/effect, and persuasive essays. Prerequisite: ENGL1410.

This course focuses on quantitative reasoning and the application of mathematical concepts to workplace, personal, and social issues. Topics include problem solving techniques, critical thinking, putting numbers into perspective, uses and abuses of percentages, index numbers, scientific notation, financial mathematics, statistics, probability, linear and exponential growth, and communicating mathematical ideas. Emphasis is placed on applications to real world situations. Concepts discussed should be useful to everyone, but the course is not part of an algebra or calculus sequence. Prerequisite(s): College level math score on a placement test or a minimum grade of "C" in Beginning Algebra (Math 0429) or Intermediate Algebra (Math 0431).

This course is primarily for business, science, liberal arts, psychology, and education majors. This course, covering topics in college algebra and trigonometry, prepares learners for calculus and other advanced math courses. Prerequisite: College level math score on a placement test or a minimum grade of "C " in Intermediate Algebra (MATH0431).

This course covers the branch of psychology that addresses the description, causes, and treatment of abnormal behavior patterns. Common disorders are included such as stress, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, schizophrenia, dissociative disorders, eating and sleeping disorders, substance abuse, and gender identity disorders. Prerequisite: College level reading score on a placement test or a minimum grade of C in College Prep Reading (READ0900).

StarID (xx1234xx)

StarID is the student username and login for ATCC and all other Minnesota State campuses. It must be activated and managed at starid.minnstate.edu.

Tech ID (12345678)

This eight-digit number is unique to ATCC. It is confidential and should be protected. Students may use this ID or email address to change their Star ID password.

StarID Self Serve: Activate your Star ID to log into many services, like email, D2L Brightspace, etc. reset your password, change profile preferences.

eServices: ATCC students can check final grades and view/print academic record (grades are not mailed out). View and revise personal information, such as changing your address.

Email: Your alextech.edu email address is the official form of communication from the college. Students are responsible to know the information sent to them from the college through their ATCC email. Login with [YourStarID]@go.minnstate.edu and your StarID password. 

Office 365: ATCC provides Microsoft Office to all currently registered students free of charge. Login with [YourStarID]@go.minnstate.edu and your StarID password. 

D2L Brightspace: Learning management system used across Minnesota State to provide online access to on campus courses and provide means of delivery for online courses. Login with your StarID and Password.
